JOHN PARKER, born on the 4th Nay, 1849, died at Darjeeling on the 19th February, 1910.
Trained under his father, who was for many years Surveyor to the Poplar Board of Works, he spent several years on railway construction in New Zealand, and was appointed in 1874 Surveyor to the Basford (Notts.) Rural District Council, a position which he held for 20 years, carrying out important drainage and other works.
He subsequently devoted himself to the manufacture and sale of the Parker-Hassall joint pipe, of which he was one of the inventors.
Mr. Parker was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 24th May, 1887
