John Palmer (c1804-1885), founder of John Palmer and Sons

1841 Living in Hagley Road, Harborne, Staffs.: John Palmer (age c35), Steel Toy. With his wife Mary Palmer (age c40) and Charlotte Palmer (age c14), Mary Palmer (age c12), Thomas Palmer (age c12), Harriet Palmer (age c8), John Palmer (age c6), Eliza Palmer (age c4).[1]

1851 Living in Harborne Lane, Harborne, Staffs.: John Palmer (age 47 born Chew Magna), Hammer Manufacturer employing 7 men and 2 boys. With his wife Mary Palmer (age 52 born North Fields, Worcs.) and their four children; Thomas Palmer (age 20 born Halesowen); Harriet Palmer (age 18 born Halesowen); John Palmer (age 16 born Halesowen); and Eliza Palmer (age 14 born Halesowen). [2]

1861 Living in Harborne Lane, Harborne, Staffs.: John Palmer (age 57 born Chew Magna, Somerset), Hammer and Coach (?). With his wife Mary Palmer (age 62 born North Field, Worcs.) and their daughter Harriot Palmer (age 26 born Harborne). Also his sister Ann Perkovic (age 64 born Chew Magna, Somerset), House owner and Widow. One servant.[3]

1871 Living in Harborne Lane, Harborne, Staffs.: John Palmer (age 67 born Chew Magna, Somerset), Hammer Maker employing 14 men and 6 boys. With his wife Mary Palmer (age 72 born North Fields, Worcs.) and their daughter Harriet Palmer (age 30 born beech Lanes, Worcs.). One servant.[4]

1881 Living in Harborne Lane, Harborne Staffs.: John Palmer (age 77 born Chew Magna, Somerset), Heavy Steel Toy Maker - Widower. Also a housekeeper and a boarder.[5]

1885 February 17th. Died. Of Harborne Lane, Harborne, Steel Toy Manufacturer. Probate to Thomas Palmer of Beeches Lane, Harborne, and John Palmer of 147 Dudley Road, Birmingham, Steel Toy Manufacturers, the sons, and Harriet Palmer of Beeches Lane, spinster, the daughter.
