JOHN MARSLAND received his technical education at Battersea Polytechnic and the Manchester School of Technology, and served his apprenticeship in the workshops of Messrs. Taylor, Lang and Company, at Stalybridge, from 1895 to 1898. He gained further experience in the drawing offices of the Clayton Engineering Company, Manchester, and Messrs. Hick, Hargreaves, Ltd., from 1899 to 1902.
From 1903 to 1908, he was draughtsman to Messrs. James Simpson and Company, Ltd., and in 1909 was appointed assistant chief draughtsman to Messrs. Mather and Platt, a post which he held until 1913.
