1797 Born in Wath, Yorks., son of Thomas Lister.

1851 John Lister 54, engineer, and Henry Lister 16, lived in the house of John's brother in law, James Thorpe 35, farmer and innkeeper, in Rotherham with Martha Thorpe 30, John Thorpe 12, Hannah Thorpe 9, and baby of 5 days[1]

1853 Designed the Arpley Bridge, Warrington to carry the London and North-Western Railway line over the river Mersey at Warrington.
