JOHN KARL GWILYM JAMES died in a nursing home in Glasgow on July 14, 1934, after a brief illness.
He was born at Hereford in 1906, and was educated at the Royal Masonic School, Bushey (1916-1923).
In October, 1923, he entered Liverpool University, where he graduated B.Eng. in 1926 with first-class honours in metallurgy, having been secretary of the University Metallurgical Society.
On leaving the University he entered the employment of the International Electric Company, Ltd., London.
In 1928 he joined the staff of the British Aluminium Company, Ltd., at their Research Laboratories at Kinlochleven, Argyll. The following year he was transferred to the managerial staff, and in 1933 to the metallurgical research staff at Kinlochleven.
Mr. James was elected a member of the Institute of Metals in 1925.
