SIR JOHN JOSEPH GRINLINTON died on the 12th May, 1912, at Middle Wallop, Hampshire, in his eighty-fifth year.
He was at first employed on the Ordnance Survey of England, and after serving as a lieutenant through the Crimean campaign he was appointed in 1857 Assistant Surveyor-General of Ceylon, later becoming a Member of the Legislative Council and other bodies.
He received the honour of knighthood in 1894 and returned from Ceylon in 1898.
Sir John Grinlinton was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 9th April, 1872.
