JOHN JAMES was born at Blaina in 1825, and was at first employed at the Blaina Iron Works.

Afterwards he was for many years manager of the Ebbw Vale Iron Co.'s mills and forges at Victoria and Ebbw Vale.

In 1870 he relinquished this position, and joined the partnership of the Pontypool Iron and Tinplate Co., where he continued until his death, which took place on 4th November 1873.

He became a Member of the Institution in 1868.
