John Hewitt Jellett
John Hewitt Jellett (1817–1888), mathematician and theologian
1848 Jellett was elected to the chair of natural philosophy at Trinity College, Dublin.
1850 wrote "A Treatise of the Calculus of Variations"
1868 he was appointed a commissioner of Irish national education.
1869 The Royal Irish Academy elected him president.
1870 He was co-opted by the senior fellows of Trinity College as a member of their board.
1872 wrote "A Treatise on the Theory of Friction"
Also wrote several papers on pure and applied mathematics, as well as articles in the Transactions of the Royal Irish Academy.
1881 Appointed provost of Trinity college; in the same year he was awarded one of the royal medals of the Royal Society.
