Captain JOHN HARRY HALLETT, R.C.E.M.E., who was born in 1907, served his apprenticeship at the Cardiff and Caerphilly depots of the Great Western Railway, from 1923 to 1928. After gaining experience in the Company's drawing office at the Cardiff Docks, and later in that of Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, Ltd., he was engaged as a designer in the London office of the latter firm for a further period of ten years.
In 1937 he became associated with the Japanese branch of Messrs. Babcock and Wilcox, but in 1940 he obtained a commission in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and was attached, with the rank of captain, to the 2nd heavy anti-aircraft workshop of the Canadian Army in this country, being subsequently transferred to the R.C.E.M.E.
Captain Hallett, whose regrettably early death occurred on 20th December 1945, was elected a Student of the Institution in 1929 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1935.
