JOHN GOODFELLOW RAMSBOTTOM was born at Crewe in 1859, being a son of the late Mr. John Ramsbottom, President of the Institution in 1870-71.

He was educated at the Manchester Grammar School and Owens College, and served an apprenticeship with Messrs. Beyer, Peacock and Co., Gorton. After filling various appointments at the Works, he became Secretary of the Company until 1898, when he retired.

After that date he lived in London for a short time, and then went to the United States, where he died on 26th August 1922, at the age of sixty-three.

He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1894, and a Member in the following year.
