JOHN EDMOND. who had an extensive engineering experience in Burma, received his technical education at the Heriot-Watt College, Edinburgh. On the completion of nine years' apprenticeship and further practical training with Messrs. Cunningham and Company, general engineers, of Haddington (during the last four years of which he was assistant foreman), he proceeded in 1927 to Burma and became assistant engineer in charge of workshops to the Indo-Burma Petroleum Company, Ltd., with whom he was associated for the remainder of his brief career.
For a time his services were lent to the Burma Cement Company as engineer in charge of mechanical plant during the execution of a scheme of reclamation in connection with the development of a new oilfield originated by the Indo-Burma Petroleum Company, for whom since 1936 he had acted as chief engineer. Mr. Edmond, who was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1938, held a commission in the Burma reserve of officers and was mentioned in dispatches for gallant and distinguished services.
His death occurred on 19th April 1942, in his fortieth year, while on the road of retreat to India after carrying out the arduous duties of demolishing the Burma oilfields.
