1860 Born in Shotts, son of James and Janet Young

1881 Railway contractor, living with his parents in Edinburgh[1]

1891 Janet Young 61, head of household, lived in Edinburgh with J Young 32, railway contractor, M Young 38, E Young 28, J A Young 23, Railway Contractor's Clerk, A Young 20[2]

By 1899 he had died (control of James Young and Sons was put into the hands of his brother Robert).
