JAMES SCOTT DUNCAN MOFFET was engineer and general manager of the Salford City Tramways (now the Salford Transport Corporation) to which position he was appointed in 1923 and which he held at the time of his death on 13th April 1933.
He was born in 1874 in Sunderland, and from 1888 to 1890 received his technical education at the Heriot-Watt Engineering College, Edinburgh, and the Durham College of Science, Newcastle upon Tyne.
He commenced his apprenticeship in 1890 with Messrs. George Clark and Sons of Southwick, Sunderland, and in 1892 entered the drawing office of the borough engineer's department.
In 1899 he was appointed chief assistant in the tramways department of the Rochdale Corporation, and in 1904 became general manager.
