Trained as a Mechanical Engineer at Monifieth

1870 .... years in Royal Gun Factory, Woolwich

1876 Manager, Paragon Works, South Queensferry

1886 Prospector of the Tayport Engine Works - James Scott and Son (of Tayport) - which he continued for the next 36 years
