JAMES NORMAN BLAIKIE was apprenticed with Messrs. Kerr, Stuart and Company of Stoke-on-Trent, and was afterwards a draughtsman, spending in all eleven years with the firm.
In 1906 he was engaged by the Yorkshire Engine Company to take charge of the shop draughtsmen's department during the remodelling of their works.
In the following year he undertook resident inspection work of locomotives under construction for Sir John Wolfe Barry at the Vulcan Foundry and at Messrs. Beyer, Peacock and Company.
Subsequently he was for four years assistant works manager with Messrs. Neville Druce and Company of Llanelly, and for two years works manager at Messrs. Stewart and Lloyd's Calder Works, Glasgow.
He served in France throughout the War, retiring with the rank of Captain, and in recent years resumed inspection work for Sir John Wolfe Barry and Partners.
He was born in Staffordshire in 1879, and died on 22nd June 1928.
He became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1909.
