1911 Obituary [1]

JAMES MCGREGOR was born in Edinburgh on 16th November 1876.

After being educated at Lenzie Academy and the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, he entered the locomotive works of the North British Railway at Cowlairs, Glasgow. On the completion of his apprenticeship he remained as draughtsman for two years in the same works. He next spent about six months in the running sheds of the same Company at Edinburgh, and then in November 1902 he went to Durban where he was engaged as draughtsman on the locomotive superintendent's staff of the Natal Government Railways.

Subsequently he returned to England, and in 1910 he proceeded to Brazil to take up an appointment on the Great Western of Brazil Railway at Pernambuco, where his death took place on 11th November 1911, within a few days of his thirty-fifth birthday.

He joined this Institution as a Graduate in 1901, and was elected an Associate Member in 1903.
