1915 Died. 'Mr. James Longley, of The Beeches, Crawley, head of the firm of Messrs. J. Longley & Co., builders and contractors, died on Wednesday at the age of 79. A large number of works have been carried out by the firm, including churches for various denominations and numerous railway stations, among them being East Croydon, Eastbourne, Lewes and Newhaven Harbour. Still more important contracts executed by the firm were the building of Christ's Hospital at West Horsham, the King Edward Sanatorium at Midhurst, the West Sussex County Asylum and the Free Library at Brighton. Mr. Longley bad held a number of public positions, had visited America, India, Japan, China, Egypt, the Holy Land, Germany and Constantinople, and had had a trip round the world.'[1]
