1845 Went into partnership with Robert Barclay and Robert Curle as Robert Barclay and Curle

1861 James Hamilton 50, ship builder, lived in Barony, with Jessie Hamilton 49, John Hamilton 20, Ship Carpenter, Jessie F Hamilton 14, James Hamilton 12, Margt Hamilton 9[2]

1871 James Hamilton 60, ship builder, lived in Barony with Margaret Hamilton 19[3]

1881 Retired Shipbuilder, at West Of Scotland Hydro Pathic Establishment[4]

1891 Retired Shipbuilder, at the hyrdo in Dumbarton[5]

His sons (presumably John and James) worked at R. Napier and Sons of Govan until almost the end of the 19th century[6]
