James Greig Shaw (1885-1937)
1937 Obituary.[1]
We regret to announce the death of Mr. James G. Shaw, M.1.A.E., of 31, Stormont Park, Belfast, which occurred last night in a nursing-home, where he underwent serious operation last Thursday evening.
Mr. Shaw was a prominent figure in the motor industry in Ulster. He served his apprenticeship with the firm of Victor Coats. Ltd., concern long since defunct but which 30 years ago held a high place in the engineering world.
Later he was engaged in the drawing office of Fairbairn, Lawson, Combe, Barbour & Combe, and then for a time he was with a firm of civil engineers.
About 25 years ago became associated with Chambers Motors, Ltd. — for many years the only firm of motor car manufacturers in Ireland — and remained with it until 1920 when he started business on his own account as consultant motor engineer. He acted as assessor for many insurance companies, and his duties in that connection took him to all parts of Ulster and the adjoining counties.
He is survived by his wife and a son, with whom deep sympathy will be felt in their heavy bereavement.
