1770-5 Resident engineer for his uncle's scheme for improving the navigability of the Clyde
1776 Superintendent General of the Honourable Company of the Bedford Levels
1782 Married Ann Marshall of Ely
1791 Reported on a scheme for improving the outfall of the Great Ouse which had been the subject of much argument for years
1813 James Golborne retired
1818 Eventually, after disastrous floods, his scheme for a new cut on the Ouse was implemented under John Rennie (the elder)
1819 James Golborne died
