James George Henry Glass (1843-1911)

JAMES GEORGE HENRY GLASS, C.I.E., born in 1843 at Bracadaile, Skye, died at Naples on the 21st April, 1911.

Entering the Public Works Department of India in 1862, he attained the rank of executive engineer in 1871.

In 1885 he was appointed Chief Engineer and Secretary in the Central Provinces, and having held this position with distinction for 9 years, carrying out many important works, notably the Jubbulpore waterworks, he became successively chief engineer and secretary in the United Provinces and in Bengal, retiring in 1898. He was made a Companion of the Indian Empire in 1890.

On returning home he served on the board of visitors of Coopers Hill College until it was closed.

Mr. Glass was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 5th December, 1876, was subsequently placed in the class of Associate Members, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 6th December, 1881.
