JAMES BOYD SHIELD, whose death in his sixty-seventh year occurred on 22nd August 1943, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1914 and was transferred to Membership in 1933. He was also a Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
After serving his apprenticeship from 1891 to 1896 with Messrs. A. Shanks and Sons, Ltd., general engineers, Arbroath, he remained with that firm for a few months as draughtsman.
