JAMES ARTHUR HEALD was born on 3rd July 1871.
His education was received at Queen's College, Taunton, and at Cardiff.
In 1887 he began a five years' apprenticeship at the Taff Vale Locomotive Works, Cardiff, under the late Mr. T. Hurry Riches, and passed through the various shops and drawing office.
On its completion in 1892 he became manager of the Cardiff Rollingstock Co. until 1907, when he started on his own account as consulting engineer in Cardiff.
He also was proprietor of the Bridgend Wagon and Engineering Works, Glamorgan, superintending the construction of railway vehicles, locomotive repairs, and general railway engineering work.
His death took place at Cardiff in August 1911, at the age of forty.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1903.
