Dr. JAKUB ZYGMUNT BUJAK, whose death was presumed to have occurred after his disappearance in July 1945, was the author of a paper on "The Variable-speed Hydraulic Governor", which was accepted for publication by the Institution about a year previously.
He was born in Poland in 1905, and after completing his general education commenced, in 1924, a six years' course of study at the Technical College, Lwov, where he was awarded the mechanical engineering diploma and finally, in 1937, obtained the degree of doctor of engineering. He received his practical training for short periods at various engineering firms on the Continent and in England, including the Krupp-Germania works at Kiel, and Messrs. Vickers-Armstrongs at Barrow. In 1931 he returned to Poland where he successively filled the positions of research assistant at the Technical College, Lwov; experimental engineer at the Warsaw locomotive works and a similar post with Messrs. Lilpop Rau and Loewenstein.
In 1939 he enlisted in the Polish Unit of the Royal Air Force and served as technical instructor. He was, however, released for industrial service about a year later and appointed research engineer to the Bryce Fuel Injection Company, Ltd., of Staines, Middlesex. His final position was that of technical assistant to Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., at Derby. Dr. Bujak was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941.
