Paul Jablochkoff developed and patented a system of electric lighting in Russia

1878 The markets committee of the Corporation of London organised the lighting of Billingsgate Market and other places using Jablochoff (sic) arc lamps (or "candles") [1]. The Victoria Embankment (near Westminster Bridge), lit by gas, was illuminated with Jablochkoff(Yablochkov) Candle arc lights alternating with the original gas standards to show the difference. [2]

c.1887 Edward Manville was managing director

Succeeded by United Electrical Engineering Co
