J & A Taylor of Townhead Works, Smith Street, Ayr.

1847 Founded. Examples of work undertaken, reported in 1894: Two 20-ton cranes for Ayr Harbour Trustees; Hauling engines for Ayr Slip Dock and for George Taylor and Co of Annbank; Engines for Templeton and Son’s mill at Ayr. [1]

1859 See Andrew Smith Taylor

1869-71 Built a railway locomotive for the Dalmellington Iron Co [2]

1883 Made haulage machinery and boilers for Ayr Harbour slipway. Described.[3][4]

1896 Registered as a Joint Stock Company in Edinburgh. No 3187. J. & A. Taylor of Townend Works, Ayr.[5]
