John Bradley Carse. who retired in 1935 as chairman of the advisory committee and director of purchases of the United States Steel Corporation, died in New York on Sunday after a brief illness.
He was born near Louisville, Ky., on Sept. 1864, a son of Thomas and Matilda Bradley Carse. A graduate of Williams College, class of '86. Mr. Carse spent his early business years in Chicago.
In 1903 moved to New York and began his association with the United States Steel Corporation.
Since the death of his wife, Anne Williams Carse, in 1939, Mr. Carse has resided at the University Club, Fifty-fourth Street and Fifth Avenue, New York, during the winter months and at his home in East Hampton, during the summer.
He a member and a former director of the Maidstone Club and the Devon Yacht Club, and formerly, for many years, was a member of the Downtown Association and the St. Andrews' Golf Club. He belonged to The Pilgrims. After the Maidstone Club’s second clubhouse burned down in 1922, Mr. Carse was made chairman of the building committee for the present clubhouse. He also served club’s golf committee for so years. The family has summered for thirty-two years.
A son, Donald Rede Carse of 62 Eighty-seventh Str York, and East Hampton, survives.
