1908 Formation of the Institute

1926 - Autumn meeting held at Liege, Belguim (1st-4th September).

1927 - AGM held in the hall of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Storey;s Gate, Westminster on March 19th and 10th.

1974 Merged with the Iron and Steel Institute to form the Metals Society

1985 The Metals Society was merged with the Materials Science Club and the Institute of Metallurgical Technicians and the Institution of Metallurgists; the name of the joint body was Institute of Metals.

1993 Incorporated in the Institute of Materials
