HUBERT MAY, who died on 16th January 1931 at the age of 54, was a partner in the firm of Messrs. A. Beeby Thompson and Partners, consulting engineers of London.
He was the son of an engineer and served his time with Messrs. John Penn and Sons of Greenwich.
Amongst other engineering duties in his early career he directed deep borings for coal in Kent; subsequently he accepted an appointment as engineer with Messrs. Nobel Brothers in the Baku Oilfields of Russia.
After leaving Russia he was associated with oilfield operations and waterworks undertakings for many years as a consulting engineer. He was an authority on modern deep-well drilling practice and oil-production methods, and had been responsible for the design of much specialized equipment for use on oilfields.
During recent years he had also been closely identified with Government water schemes in British Guiana, Egypt, Sudan, East Africa, and Cyprus, which caused him to make frequent journeys abroad.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1919.
