Established about 1845 as Higgins, Eagle & Hutchinson.
In November, 1890, the business was taken over by the present directors, Edward Clark, Charles Ash Body, and Alfred Longdale Temple, trading as Higgins, Eagle & Co. Prior to this each member of the present co-partnership was for many years associated with the firm. Although now converted into a Limited Company, there is no outside issue of shares.
1914 Premises: Extensive warehouses fronting Cannon Street, and extending from 3, Distaff Lane to 26, Old Change. Branches: Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow; also at Melbourne (Australia) and Wellington (N.Z.). Stag: Over 300 persons. Specialities: Real Lace, Cotton Lace, Silk Lace, Nets, Curtains, Swiss Embroideries, Chiffons, Tulles, Ribbons, Handkerchiefs, Blouses, Linen Goods, Underclothing, Frillings, Flowers, Straws, Skirts.
