Major HERBERT PHILLIPS FLETCHER, born on the 27th February, 1872, died on the 3rd August, 1916, from injuries received while on active service.
Trained under his father, the late Professor Banister Fletcher, he gained a varied engineering experience in the construction of roads, sewers and waterworks for various estates, and subsequently became a partner in the firm of Banister Fletcher and Sons, in which capacity he was responsible for a number of public buildings.
He was a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and of the Surveyors' Institution, a Barrister-at-law, Surveyor to the Board of Trade, Architect of the Carpenters' Company and to other City Companies, and Director of the Trades Training School.
He was the author of various technical works and had travelled extensively. He served with the French and English aviation services, and had received the Croix de Guerre, both naval and military, for conspicuous bravery.
He was elected an Associate Member on the 7th December, 1897.
