"HERBERT PAYNE PITSTOW was born in 1892 and received his education at the Goldsmiths' College and the Regent Street Polytechnic, London.
On the completion of a six years' apprenticeship with Messrs. Lennox and Company, engineers, of Chiswick, in 1914, he secured a post as draughtsman and estimator to Messrs. George Kent, Ltd., meter manufacturers, of Luton, with whom he remained for five years. After acting in a similar capacity for a brief period with Messrs. John Bellamy, Ltd., engineers, London, he joined, in 1920, the staff of Messrs. Foamite Firefoam, Ltd. (now Messrs. Foamite, Ltd.), London, as draughtsman and assistant to the chief engineer and began an association with that firm which continued until his death on 22nd December 1948. He was promoted to be chief draughtsman in 1923 and three years later was appointed assistant chief engineer. Mr. Pitstow had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1929."
