HENRY WILLIAM SNOWBALL, who was born in 1888, received his education at Sunderland Technical College, where he obtained an Associateship.
After serving an apprenticeship with George Clark, Ltd., Southwick Engine Works, Sunderland, from 1904 to 1909, he occupied positions as a junior draughtsman with that firm and the Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company, Ltd., during the next two years.
He was then salesman and demonstrator to the Consolidated Tool Company, Ltd., in the north of England area until 1914, when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers and was on active service.
On his discharge in 1916 he was appointed works manager and engineer of No. 9 National Filling Factory and a year later he became its general manager.
After acting as manager of Moor Engineering and Pipe Works, Ltd., he received the appointment of rolling stock superintendent in the transport department of Sunderland Corporation. He was subsequently promoted to be general manager and engineer, a position he retained until his death, which occurred on 1st January 1952.
Mr. Snowball had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1932.
