HENRY WICKS was born at Keith, Banffshire, on 9th May 1849.
After serving an apprenticeship with Messrs. Denny and Co., Dumbarton, he went to India in 1872, and joined the British India Steam Navigation Co. in 1873, as assistant superintending engineer in Calcutta,
In the following year he was transferred to Bombay, and alternated between Bombay and Calcutta for some years.
In 1880 he was appointed manager of Messrs. Burn and Co.'s ironworks at Howrah, Bengal.
Ten years later he was admitted into partnership in the same firm, from which he retired in May 1903 and returned to England.
His death took place at Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham, on 6th August 1913, at the age of sixty-four.
He was elected a Member of this Institution in 1878.
