1774 June 5th. Baptised at Effingham, St Lawrence, Surrey, the son of James Peto and his wife Mary
1789 Apprentice carpenter to Benjamin Simmons of Leatherhead
1806 June 24th. Carpenter. Granted Freedom of City of London in the Company of Loriners (Metal parts for horse apparel).
1815 His nephew, Thomas Grissell, was articled to him.

1820 'DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP. BARTON AND CO. NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership lately subsisting between JOHN BARTON (Inventor the Metallic Pistons, Buckets, Stuffing Boxes, &c.) and HENRY PETO, at No. 30, Falcon-square, London, is this Day dissolved.-—Witness my Hand this 30th Day of October; 1820, HENRY PETO, 31, Little Britain.[1]

1830 September 15th. Died at his house in Highbury, of York Road, Lambeth, in his 57th year.
1830 September 22nd. Buried at St. Andrew's, Cobham. Of Highbury Terrace, Islington. Age 57.
1832 January. Legal notice concerning his estate. Formerly of Little Britain.
He left his building business to his two nephews, Thomas Grissell, and Samuel Morton Peto who then traded as Grissell and Peto
