HENRY NICHOLSON served his apprenticeship in the Works of the North-Eastern Railway at Darlington, under the late Mr. William Bouch, who was a Member of this Institution.
After the completion of his indentures he was engaged for five years as inspector of the manufacture of water-pipes and valves for the Weardale and Shildon District Waterworks Co., under Messrs. Thomas Hawksley and William Bouch, and he then superintended the production in this country of a large quantity of bridge material to be used in the construction of the Mary River, Maryborough, and Gympie Railway for the Queensland Government.
Work of a similar character then occupied his attention for Messrs. Fry, Miers and Co., in connexion with the San Paulo Waterworks, South America, and for Messrs. T. and C. Hawksley in regard to various important waterworks in this country.
Later on, he was engaged in similar inspection work in connexion with the great Vyrnwy Waterworks undertaking of the Liverpool Corporation under Messrs. Hawksley and Deacon. In the engineering capacity outlined above Mr. Nicholson had exceptional experience and as may be gathered carried through inspectional work in connexion with many projects of premier importance.
His death occurred in November 1925.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1884.
