HENRY DENZIL LOBLEY was born on 31st March 1890 at Gainsborough, Lines., and was educated at Loughborough Grammar School.

He received his technical training in the University of Birmingham and graduated as B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with First Class Honours in 1910, when he was awarded the Bowen Research Scholarship. In 1911 the M.Sc. Degree was conferred on him for Research Work at the University.

He was apprenticed to Messrs. Richard Garrett and Sons, of Leiston, Suffolk, with whom he remained until 1921, having been promoted to be their Chief Engineer. In that year he entered into a partnership, Talbot and Lobley, engineers and specialists in steam locomobiles, in which he was engaged till his untimely death, from injuries received in a motorcar accident, on 14th October 1922, aged thirty-two years.

He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1915; he was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and a Member of the Iron and Steel Institute.
