HECTOR KIDD was a native of Dundee, where he was born in 1847, but as a lad of 14 went to Australia with his parents.
He served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. P. N. Russell of Sydney and afterwards joined the Australian Steam Navigation Co., becoming Chief Engineer of the steamer Leichardt.
He then joined the Colonial Sugar Refining Co. of Sydney and was chief engineer of many of this company's mills in New South Wales, Queensland and Fiji.
He was also consulting engineer to the firms of Anthony Hodern and Sons, and Dalgety and Co., and a member of the Fitzroy Dock Board.
In 1893 Mr. Kidd attended the Sugar Convention as representative of Australian sugar interests at Chicago.
He was a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Engineers of Australia.
His death took place on 31st May 1926. He became a Member of this Institution in 1885.
