1895 Obituary [1]
HARRY JONES HARMAN, son of Harry William Harman, of the Fairbairn Engineering Company, was born in Manchester on the 29th of July, 1846.
After an apprenticeship at the Fairbairn Works he was in 1871 appointed an Assistant Engineer in the service of the Khedive of Egypt, in which capacity he superintended the erection of sugar plant in that country.
On completing that work he was engaged by the late Duke of Sutherland for four years in designing and superintending the erection of saw mills, engineering shops and other works on the Scotch estates of that nobleman.
Mr. Harman next acted as Chief Engineer to the Scottish Boiler Insurance Co, Manchester, for four years, after which he practised in that city, remaining, however, Consulting Engineer to the Company until 1886. In that year he was appointed chief of the engineering staff of Rownson, Drew and Co, with which firm and its successors, Drew-Bear, Perks and Co, he remained until his death from consumption on the 18th of February, 1895.
Mr. Harman was elected an Associate on the 6th of February, 1877, and was subsequently placed in the class of Associate Member.
