1862 Henry Isaac Rowntree bought the business of Samuel Tuke and Co

c.1864 Business moved to Tanner's Moat, York.

1869 He was joined by his brother the philanthropist Joseph Rowntree

1882 Introduced Chocolate Beans, later called Smarties[1]

1897 Rowntree Co was registered on 3 March, to take over the business of H. I. Rowntree and Co, manufacturers of cocoa, chocolate etc. [2]
