1825 The Chelsea Waterworks Company created extensive ponds in the area bordering Chelsea and Pimlico using water from the tidal Thames. These were to form the basis of the Grosvenor Canal which was opened to traffic in 1825.
1858 The Act of Parliament for the Victoria Station and Pimlico Railway received Royal Assent; construction involved using the Grosvenor Canal for the railway, which was completed in 1860.
The canal has been progressively filled in. A small part of it remains in the Grosvenor Waterside development.
