1891 Shepherd and Ayrton
The 1905 O.S. map [1] shows Gorebrook Iron Works on Pink Bank Lane in an area called Nutsford Vale. Immediately to the south was the small Gore Brook, whose foul condition occupied many newspaper column-inches in the early 1900s. To the east were fields, and the Gorton UDC sewage works. Immediately to the north was a dye works, and to the west, streets of terraced houses.
