Golden Jubilee Bridges
The Golden Jubilee Footbridges are multi-span cable-stayed footbridges that span the River Thames in Central London, on either side of the existing Hungerford Railway Bridge.
The two footbridges provide a direct link for pedestrians from the South Bank Arts and Entertainment Complex to Charing Cross Station and the West End. The eastern one replaces a previous footbridge part of the railway bridge.
Designed by WSP Group, structural engineering by Gifford and Partners; contractors: Costain and Norwest Holst Construction; steelwork by Butterley Engineering
The construction employed a technique of incrementally launching the bridge deck which provided significant time and cost savings and allowed work to progress in parallel with the fabrication and erection of the pylons and restraint elements, whilst minimising disruption to the navigable waterway below.
