Malt whisky distillers, Dufftown

1897 The distillery was established by William Williams and Sons Limited, an Aberdeen firm of whisky brokers and exporters

1919 William Williams combined with two other distillers, Alexander and Macdonald of Leith and Greenlees Brothers of Campbeltown, Glasgow, to form Macdonald, Greenlees and Williams (Distillers). The company went into liquidation in 1926 with the assets being acquired by the Distillers Co. A new subsidiary was set up, Macdonald Greenlees Limited. This company was dissolved in 2010

The construction of Glendullan established the last of seven distilleries in Dufftown during a period of rapid expansion, making it the supposed malt whisky capital of the world. It was said that "Rome was built on seven hills, Dufftown stands on seven stills"

1962 The original distillery was rebuilt

1972 A second distillery was built alongside and this eventually superseded the original, which closed in 1985

2021 Glendullan is now part of Diageo's portfolio of Scottish distilleries and is known for its Singleton of Glendullan brand
