GEORGE THOMSON was born in Glasgow in 1859 and served his apprenticeship at the Canal Basin, Glasgow.
He was then trained as a draughtsman in the works of his uncle, Mr. George Russell, at Motherwell.
In 1883 he joined Messrs. Tangyes of Birmingham as a draughtsman.
Six years later he was appointed head draughtsman in the engine department of Messrs. Bertram's of Edinburgh.
In 1902 he commenced consulting practice in Edinburgh and carried out various public heating, ventilating, and lighting schemes.
During the War he worked under the Ministry of Munitions.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1904 and he was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
His death occurred on 5th December 1928, in his seventieth year.
