GEORGE THOMAS BELL received his education at Westoe Secondary School, and at the Marine School, South Shields. After serving his apprenticeship from 1917 to 1921 with [[Brigham and Cowan|Messrs. Brigham and Cowan, Ltd.]], South Shields, he was associated with [[White's Patent Oil Burning Co|Messrs. White's Patent Oil Burning Company, Ltd.]], which afterwards became [[White's Marine Engineering Co|White's Marine Engineering Company, Ltd.]], Hebburn-on-Tyne, up to the time of his death, which occurred on 29th August 1943 at the early age of forty-one.
During his connection with the firm, after an initial experience as draughtsman in charge of the drawing office, he filled successively the positions of estimator, assistant to general manager, works manager and finally joint general manager. Mr. Bell had an extensive experience of reciprocating marine steam engines, in addition to his specialized knowledge of oil-burning and oil-separating plant.


He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1937.

GEORGE THOMAS BELL received his education at Westoe Secondary School, and at the Marine School, South Shields. After serving his apprenticeship from 1917 to 1921 with Messrs. Brigham and Cowan, Ltd., South Shields, he was associated with Messrs. White's Patent Oil Burning Company, Ltd., which afterwards became White's Marine Engineering Company, Ltd., Hebburn-on-Tyne, up to the time of his death, which occurred on 29th August 1943 at the early age of forty-one.
