"GEORGE FRANCIS GIBSON was associated with Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton, during the whole of his professional career. He was born in 1894 and after serving a four-year apprenticeship with Moody and Company, Ltd., Luton, general engineers, entered the Vauxhall Motor Works in 1914 and was employed in the fitting and machine shops. In 1920 he was appointed chief of the experimental engine test and development department. After holding this position for five years he received his final appointment as experimental engineer, which he retained to the end of his life. During the 1939-45 war he was engaged on experimental work in connection with the development of tanks. Mr. Gibson was elected an Associate Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1925 and transferred to Membership in 1937. His death occurred on 3rd July 1951."
