Dr George Eveleigh MD, MRCS

Developed a process for manufacturing town gas which was implemented by the Patent Gas Co

1812 Born in Peckham, son of Francis and Anna Eveleigh[1]

1838 Married Johanna Titia Borcherds in Cape Town[2]

1861 George Eveleigh 48, MRCS General practitioner, lived in Swanage, with his wife Johanna T Eveleigh 45[3]

1866 Patent to George Eveleigh, of Southampton, in the county of Southampton, Surgeon, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the manufacture of paper by the introduction therein of a new vegetable fibrous substance."[4]

1869 Patent to George Eveleigh, of Tredegar-road, Bow, in the county of Middlesex, Consulting Chemist, for the invention of "improvements in the manufacture and purification of gas for lighting, and in the means of applying the same to heating purposes, parts of which improvements are also applicable to the purification of mineral oil."[5]

1871 In charge of Patent Gas Works, employing 2 men, lived in Peckham[6]

1871 Patent to George Eveleigh, of 16, Asylum-road, Peckham, in the county of Surrey, Consulting Chemist, has given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in the manufacture and purification of gas, and in certain parts of the apparatus employed therein."[7]

1871 Patent To George Eveleigh, of 16, Asylum-road, Peckham, Consulting Chemist, for the invention of "an improved means of purifying gas from ammonia."[8]
