"GEORGE ERNEST WILLIAM KNOWLES, B.Sc.(Eng.), was associated with the electrical side of engineering during the whole of his career. He received his technical education at the Halifax Municipal Technical College, graduating B.Sc. in engineering in 1931. After serving his apprenticeship with the [[Yorkshire Electric Power Co]] at Leeds, from 1931 to 1933, he received his first appointment as mains engineer to the [[Mid-Cumberland Electricity Co|Mid-Cumberland Electricity Company, Ltd]]., and from 1934 to 1936 occupied a similar position with the [[North Lincolnshire and Howdenshire Electricity Co]]. He then began a connection with the [[Settle and District Electricity Co|Settle and District Electricity Company, Ltd]]., which lasted up to the time of his death on 4th February 1947, at the early age of thirty-eight. Commencing as distribution engineer, he received his final appointment as engineer and manager a year later. In addition to his duties as electrical engineer Mr. Knowles acted as consulting engineer to various quarrying concerns. He was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1942 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1945."

"GEORGE ERNEST WILLIAM KNOWLES, B.Sc.(Eng.), was associated with the electrical side of engineering during the whole of his career.
