1768 The "Butler" trademark was registered by the Cutlers Company.
1825 G. and J. Butler were knife manufacturers and cutlery dealers in Trinity Street[1]
c.1833 James Bramall was appointed file manager
1914 Manufacturers of cutlery and electro-plate. Specialities: "Cavendish" cutlery and electro-plate, cabinets and cases of cutlery and plate, presentation outfits, prizes for sports, spoons and forks, fish and dessert sets, wedding and Christmas presents etc.[2]

By 1980s was part of Crown House Group.
1987 Crown Group was acquired by Coloroll but Butler was to be sold[5]
